Two months later

So, my last post was over two months ago when I was 34 weeks pregnant. I took my little girl for her six week shots this week. My plan for my blog was to get at least one post up between finishing full time work and her arrival. Hah! Here’s why that’s funny:

After finishing my final shift, as scheduled at 38 weeks, I was escorted to my car with the excess contents of my locker (I keep a few varieties of tea, so I definitely needed the help), presents for baby, and hilariously conflicting emotions. I was relieved that I’d made it to 38 weeks, and that I could get some rest, excited and anxious about just how different the coming Monday would feel, and a little sad because I really enjoy spending time with the people I work with. The long story short, is that I came home had a bath, got out of the bath, had my waters break, went to the hospital (thankfully hubby was home!) and six short hours after arriving at the hospital little Amelia made her grand entrance at 12:33. That was the last time I was up past midnight!
So, here I am, off to work, chuffed that I’d made it to 38 weeks:

And here she is, about 24 hours later when daylight spilled into our hospital room:

I didn’t sleep much between getting back to that room and the daylight hours, then needless to say there was a parade of friends coming and going that weekend. My girl is so considerate to be available for a whole weekend.
Still very much adjusting to “Mummy life,” and as if a signal to wrap this up, she’s waking up. Gotta fly!
Great to be back on the blog-o-sphere!
Cheers, L.

Little things.

So, between September 2013 and September 2014, I lost about 18kgs (or about 40 pounds for those of you who don’t live in metric land). I’ve been seeing a dietitian since all the sleep clinic could tell me last year was to see a nasal surgeon to investigate that being a possible cause of my poor sleep. The surgeon did notice something but fixing it surgically only had a 10-15% chance of it actually making a difference to my sleep disorder.

And this is me in Sept ’13 just before I started taking better care of myself.

~Shoe love is true love~

I’ve always used the Bridget Jones line of “Yes, I will always be just a little bit fat,” and well having the dog means I’m not entirely lazy, but none the less I managed to collect a bit of excess weight. I found myself in one of those phases where clothes were feeling tight, some of them were put away because they were no longer acceptable to wear in public, or were simply too small. Anyway it’s been the little things really that made all the difference, and while I first noticed it as “gee those pants are loose,” a lot of friends and work colleagues had started making comments about me wasting away. By March I was feeling pretty happy about everything and started to loosen up on how strict I was being, just relaxed the rules a little. It slowed down the weight loss, but I was still really happy with the rate I was still achieving.

March 2014

I was still a fairly decent size in September last year, but healthier, and isn’t that all that matters. I was in size 12 jeans which hadn’t happened since I was terribly unwell in my 2nd year of uni. Unfortunately I didn’t get full body photos at any of the events I was at (and I had a lot on last September!) but this is my awesome Halloween and the last full body selfie just weeks (possibly days) before baby time!

Needless to say, I’m pretty chuffed. So after showing off, here’s my advice:
1/ Dietitians are worth the money spent. At the end of the day you can’t put a price on your health.

2/ Don’t just see your dietitian, do what they tell you!

3/ Keep a food diary, You’ll be amazed at how much you’re actually putting away in a day.

4/ Make little changes. Depriving yourself of everything you love will just make you miserable.

5/ Always have an apple(or similar) handy. If you really are as hungry as you think you are, you’ll eat that apple.

The key for me was the little things. It’s simple, but if one person reads this and it helps them, I’ll be even more chuffed.

Take care of yourself!

Not busy…

Well that’s different….

I don’t have a calendar for this year yet… but what I do have is a weekly planner pad, and I decided to write a few weeks up because I like to keep track of my shifts and have a few appointments that are a few weeks away and while they are in my phone it’ll be easier to keep them on display. I discovered something magical…. I had NO firm weekend plans for about 6 weeks! Now the hard part for me, is keeping it that way! I had been over-doing it up until the end of December anyway. I’ve had a pretty relaxing January, which is a little out of the ordinary seeing as we’re the friends with the pool. Usually we have a shindig for the Hottest 100, but this year, napping on the couch sounded to appealing to resist. We still managed to have a few casual catch-ups with friends, and that was awesome, but I didn’t over exhaust myself at all. *Hooray!*

I’m managing to keep it pretty light again this weekend. In a few hours I’ll be heading down to the Gold Coast to hang out with one of my besties. I had a few things I thought I should do on the way down, but I’ve scratched most of them in favour of finishing the season one Torchwood DVDs, and not rushing…. actually I should probably do some laundry…. aaaand find clean pyjamas… and making sure I have my phone charger…

Well the good news is that I managed all that, and am wrapping this up in the guest room down at the Goldie…. In my pyjamas, which are clean =^_^=

See you next time hunnies!
